Anna University, established in 1978 is a public state university located in Tamil Nadu, India. The main campus is in Guindy, Chennai and is sprawled across 189 acres. Anna University houses four highly renowned institutions - Madras Institute of Technology (MIT), College of Engineering, Guindy, Alagappa College of Technology and School of Architecture and Planning (SAP).
The University has 13 Constituent Colleges, 3 Regional Campuses at Tirunelveli, Madurai, and Coimbatore. The affiliated colleges have risen to 593, consisting of six government engineering colleges, 426 self-financing colleges, and three government-aided private institutions, all being located in the state of Tamil Nadu.
The University offers many undergraduate and postgraduate courses in multiple specializations - 29 undergraduate and 90 postgraduate Programmes in various disciplines in the University Departments and 41 undergraduate and 57 postgraduate programmes in Affiliated Institutions.
A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, Former President of India and Bharat Ratna awardee and A. C. Muthiah, Indian industrialist and ex-president, Board of Control for Cricket in India are famous alumni of the university.
